Storage Bins in plain terms

Storage bins are sold by quarts, which is a number almost nobody can picture. The useful translation is this: 23 quarts is a closet shelf, 48 quarts is a toy box a child can move, 76 quarts is a duvet, and 97 quarts is garage shelving. Every bin in this section shares the same construction, so choosing is entirely a question of which of those four scales matches the space.

All seven packs use the same three features, and they are the features that separate these from a stack of cardboard. Two hinged doors on the front mean a bin at the bottom of a stack can be opened where it stands. A removable lid means it can be filled with the lid off rather than stuffed through a flap. Four castors mean a full bin rolls instead of being carried. Folded, every size goes down to about two inches.

The pack count is the second decision and it is worth more thought than it usually gets. Buying three and then buying three more six months later gives you six bins from two production runs, which is how a shelf ends up almost matching. Where a whole shelf or a whole move is in view, the four-packs are the cheaper way to get there and the only way to be sure everything lines up.
